Governor's Advisory Committee on DUII
As Chair of the Governor's Advisory Committee on DUII from 1986 until the end of 1999, Peter and the committee spearheaded Oregon's fight against drunk driving and brought about improvements in Oregon's laws, police enforcement, judicial sanctions, public education, and treatment for offenders. Peter proudly served on the Governor's Advisory Committee starting in 1982. He is honored to have been appointed and reappointed by four governors from Gov. Vic Atiyeh (R) to Gov. John Kitzhaber, M.D. (D). In his community, Peter also headed the Clackamas County Intoxicated Driver Task Force, encouraged formation of the Clackamas County Chapter of MADD, and served on the county's Blue Ribbon Committee on Law Enforcement.
After his service to the state, Peter was presented the State of Oregon's Crystal Award by Troy Costales, Oregon's Traffic Safety Manager. "During Peter Glazer's tenure as Chairman of the Governor's Advisory Committee on DUII, Oregon's laws and programs led the nation," Costales said, continuing, "Many other states view Oregon as the benchmark for success." In accepting the award, Peter remarked that Oregon's highways are getting safer, noting that the year he stepped down, the statewide total of motor vehicle fatalities was the lowest in 44 years. "All of our hard work is paying off but we still have progress to make. I won't be satisfied until the day when no innocent Oregonians lose their lives to drunk drivers," Peter said.
